Since 2005, I have enjoyed providing tech support to homes and small businesses. I like being quite different from the big box store support options. Don't you hate it when a professional 'mystifies' the service they are providing? As much as is feasible, I empower you to understand and be a good steward of your technology. Do you change the oil in your snow blower every year? That's what the manual says to do but every three years is probably just fine.
The truth is that technology requires less maintenance than is often touted and break down maintenance actually makes sense in many cases (unlike with cars). All that you absolutely must do is software updates and backups.
Now, you should know that I will most likely tell you things you don't want to hear.
Examples:
"The anti-virus you just purchased is making your computer unusable."
"You seem to print often enough that you should have a spare black and white laser printer."
"Learning about security is the best way to stay secure online."
"No, the man with the thick accent whom you let take over your computer did not provide anything of value for your computer."
See, I want to actually solve your problem, and the problem might be bad software, old hardware, or you just not operating your technology as intended.
